From Virtual Japan
Eiji Okada was born on June 13, 1920 in Chiba, Japan and was a prolific actor before his death, caused by heart failure on September 14, 1995. Eiji Okada broke into the film scene in the 60s after his success in Hiroshima, Mon Amour in 1960. In 1963, Marlon Brando chose Eiji Okada specifically to co-star in The Ugly American in 1963, which was Eiji Okada's only Hollywood film. Okada studied at Keio University and broke the traditional fierce samurai stereotype by acting in more comical, sensitive and haunting performances. Eiji Okada founded a theatre company with his wife, Aiko Wasa, who was also an actress.
