Chiyoda Line is a rapid transit line in Tokyo. Started in 1962 and owned by Tokyo Metro, the Chiyoda Line is one of the main lines for Harajuku, Shibuya, and many other popular locations in Tokyo. It has a maximum speed of 80 km/hour.

The Chiyuda line can be found by searching for a dark green color on a map. It is also represented by a dark green dot. All stations are preceded with the letter C, with Ayase Kita Station being C20 and Yoyogi-Uehara Station being C1.

It was named after the political center known as Chiyoda-ku.

History

Production and planning for the Chiyoda line began in 1962, under the name “Line 8” (though the Chiyoda line is currently line 9 of Tokyo Metro). The line began in December 20, 1969 but the full route was not completed until October 10th, 1972. A smaller section between Yoyogi and Uehara was not finished until 1978, though that addition did not require as much major construction.

As this line became popular and the cars became more packed, Chikan (or “groping”) became a serious issue on the Chiyoda Line, so the introduction of women-only cars began on May 15th, 2006 for all early morning trains. The reaction to this has been mostly positive, though many men and women fear that a decrease in the number of women on mixed cars will only serve to put those women more at risk.

They also opened up “Romance Cars” in 2008. Romance cars seat two people, have a small table for eating and no armrest in between the two passengers. Prevously, most Chiyoda Cars had only one seat and one arm rest.

Stations

The Chiyoda Line stops at all of the following 20 Stations (In order):

Yoyogi Uehara, Yoyogi Park and Jingumae are all located in Shibuya. Omotesando, [[[Nogizaka]] and Akasaka are located in Minato. New Ochanomizu, Otemachi, Nijūbashimae, Hibiya, Kasumigaseki and Kokkai-gijidō-mae are all located in Chiyoda. Sendagi, Nezu, and Yushima are located in Bunkyo. Nishi Nippori and Machiya are both located in Arakawa. Kita Senju and Ayase are found in Adachi, as is Ayase Kita.
