Meiji-Jingu Mae Station

Meiji-Jingu Mae Station is a Tokyo Metro Station located on the Fukutoshin Line and the Chiyoda Line in Shibuya, Tokyo. It is located directly next to the Harajuku Station on the Yamanote Line and is often marked together on most maps though they have separate trains and exits.

According to recent reports, the average number of individuals that used the station on any given day in 2007 was 58,038 people (or approximately 2.1 million per year). That number is down from 6% in 2006.

History

Meiji-Jingu Mae Station opened for the Chiyoda line on October 20th, 1972. The Fukutoshin Line did not fully open up until June 14th, 2008, but it did open up in several stages from 1994 to 2008.

The Chiyoda line was built directly under Meiji Street. The station is located in Harajuku, which often confuses people because it is not the primary Harajuku Station. The initial development of the Chiyoda Line was planned in 1962, though the first stretch did not begin until 1969 and it did not become part of the Meihi-Jingu Mae station until 1972.

Destinations

You can catch the Chiyoda line to go to: Yoyogi-Uehara, (Odakyū Odawara Line, Odakyū Tama Line) and Karakida, or catch the line the opposite direction to go to for Omotesandō, Ōtemachi, Kita-Senju, Ayase, Kita-Ayase, (Jōban Line Direct) Matsudo, Kashiwa, Abiko, and Torid.

The Fukutoshin line goes straight to Shibuya one way, and for Shinjuku-sanchōme, Ikebukuro, Kotake-Mukaihara, Wakōshi, Tōbu Tōjō Line, Seibu Yurakucho Line, Seibu Ikebukuro Line.

Facilities

There are three different entranceways. The first is at Yoyogi Park in the west basement. The 2nd is the east subbasement by Meiji street and the third is in the 4 story underground.

There is a toilet area available near all three entrances. There is also a ticket gate near all three entrances as well. A season ticket booth can be located near Exit 1 (Yoyohi Park West Basement Exit) and the escalators are located at exits 5 and 7, as well as basements 2 and 4.
