Rira Sugawara is a Japanese fashion designer and the founder of the label and print brand Dans La Vie. Originally a print brand only, Dans La Vie has evolved since 1999 to become a full blown label and a member of the TFWA design studio.

History

Rira Sugawara attended Waseda University Graduate School after working as an Atelier print designer for a French Director. She created her print label, Dans La Vie in 1999 and started printing her work shortly thereafter. Her first collection of clothing and products with her own print was released in 2000 and was shown in AMBIENCE in Minami Aoyama.

She has participated in many different shows, including the London Fabric Show, computer animated films, and collaborative projects with both Japanese and overseas designers. Her first solo collection of clothing was released in 2004 and Dans La Vie was incorporated in 2005.

Since then, her work has been shown and sold in shops in New York, Paris, Milan, and London. She is currently part of the council of fashion designers in Tokyo and made the Creation Business Forum clothing for Japan Fashion Week in both 2005 and 2006. Dans La Vie is now one of the 28 TFWA design studio brands.

Clothing Style

The clothing in Rira Sugawara’s line is largely known for its creative approach to print design, with a series of high concept and simple prints showcasing well designed and tailored shirts, dresses, and jackets.

Where to Buy

Rira Sugawara operates a boutique in Tokyo’s Aoyama district and Dans La Vie clothing is available in a number of local boutiques and department stores as well.
