Saga

Saga is a city in Japan located in the Saga Prefecture. Serving as the central area managing both government and economic development in the Saga Prefecture, the city is also the capital of the prefecture. As reported in 2006, there are 203,411 residents resting in the 355.15km area.

Saga is key to the entire Saga Prefecture. An enormous education department, most efficient city hall, and thriving cultural dedication, Saga is where it all happens. In fact, as recent as 2006 there have been big plans signed into action for the city. Each one is geared towards expanding, improving, and perfecting the city.

History of Saga

Through a long tangles weave of events the city of Saga was named, renamed, and moved about for close to a hundred years. While the exact history of the city is confusing to say the least, here are a few things made certain.

• 1883 Saga City is officially established as a city in the Saga Prefecture. It was at this time that the city became the center of the Prefecture housing all government facilities and education departments.

• 1922 Many surrounding villages in the area merge with Saga City doubling the area and population of the city.

• 1954 An act dedicated to planning the city of Saga introduces more merges of surrounding cities and towns both in and around the Saga Prefecture. This triggered even greater economic and commercial growth.

Points of Interest

• Saga International Balloon Fiesta This event is held in Saga every year and pulls in a great amount of publicity for the city. The entire agenda is to draw attention to the hot air balloons designed by millions of talented individuals around the world. In 2005 alone there were about 15 million tourists coming in to see the internationally loved event.
