Takeshi Kitano is a Japanese actor. He was born on January 18, 1947 in Tokyo, Japan. He often goes by the stage name “Beat” Takeshi. He began his career doing stand-up comedy and television, and later got into films. He began directing in 1989. In addition to acting in dozens of films, he also has 16 writing and 14 directing credits to his name. He also writes novels, poetry and essays and is known as an accomplished cartoonist.

Awards

In his long, distinguished career, Takeshi Kitano has won 41 awards and has been nominated for 24 additional awards. His award history reflects his varied career paths as he has received awards for acting, writing, directing, and editing. He is an extremely popular actor in Japan, having won the Academy Award of Japan’s “Popularity Award” twice. Additionally, he has won “best actor” and “best director” awards at several other different award programs.
