Ueno Station (上野駅) is a railway station located in Taito-ku, Tokyo. Commonly used to reach Ueno and Ueno Park, home to the Tokyo National Museum, Ueno Zoo, The National Museum of Western Art, and the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, the station is highly used. It is also the terminus for many trains incoming from Northern Japan.

History

Ueno Station was opened on July 28, 1883. The buildings originally built in the 19th century were destroyed during the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and were subsequently rebuilt by Japanese Government Railways. In 1927, the precursor to Tokyo Metro created the first subway line in Japan between Ueno Station and Asakusa Station.
