Hatakeyama attended [[Tokyo Mode Gakuen]] and later went on to win the [[Ministry of International Trade]] and [[Industry Fashion Grand Prize]]. He also worked for some time in Paris as an assistant designer before returning to Japan and starting T.H.D La Maison with his wife Junko. The firm is fully independent to date and with a small staff is anomalous in its smaller, subdued approach to the [[Tokyo Collections]] each year – despite the brand’s massive success.

==Clothing Style==
Hatakeyama is well known for his conservative clothing that features eccentricities in small yet potent bits that allow older, more mature women to indulge a bit without buying the overly eccentric clothing that many young designers and firms create. His influences are said to be Moschino and Jean Charles de Castelbajac, which appears in the frequent use of skirt and jacket mismatches and the mixture of classical cuts in his clothing with rough, modern textures. Knits are among his favorite materials to use as they allow for more design possibilities with the single thread. Current designs are often composed of modern aesthetics and styles from across the spectrum of the area. Hatakeyama admittedly draws much from his surroundings in Harajuku but tries to maintain some bits of classicism to keep the brand fresh.
