Obihiro is a city in Japan found in the Hokkaido Prefecture. The reports for 2005 suggest that approximately 171,540 residents reside in Obihiro. As with much of Japan, this number is said to be much higher now due to substantial growth in the economy.

Due to the vast amount of good soil, great climate, and plenty of experience the agricultural and farming industry has topped the cities economy lists. Harvesting these crops to distribute or trade throughout Japan and many other countries has brought in a great amount of money for Obihiro.

Obihiro is home to the Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces which plays a large role in protected the entire land of Japan. This has been the location of training for those seeking employment in the Japanese Military Forces. This organization also plays a heavy role in the Japanese security during threatening times.

History of Obihiro

In 1905, Obihiro unveils a new railway driving the population, communication, and trade between other larger Japanese cities including Asahikawa.

In April of 1933 Obihiro received recognition as an established city with a firm government put in place. While the city had a thriving economy before being officially established, it wasn’t until this time that organization of development was employed.

Points of Interest

Obihiro is home to many historic ruins and buildings. The preservation of these sites, buildings, and artifacts has brought many tourists in from all around the world. Obihiro is known for being the best place to get a real look at what is left of the earliest days in Japan.

  • Obihiro Centennial Memorial Hall The Obihiro Centennial Memorial Hall houses special pieces of the Japanese culture dated as far back as prehistoric times. Each piece has been found by highly trained professionals promising its authenticity.
  • Manabe Garden The Manabe Garden is a very large area of European and Japanese styled gardens. Visitors are treated to a special Japanese Tea House, beautifully landscaped paths, and handcrafted stunning benches.
