Tokyo Designer’s Week is a biannual trade show where inventors and businesses introduce their newly designed products for the first time. Every year over 1000 different companies and designers present their new ideas, which include mostly various forms of interior designs from lamps to furniture.
The main event is of Tokyo Designer’s Week is called “100% Design Tokyo.” There are several other events, such as “Japan Brand” and “World Design Conference” where other designs are unveiled, but 100% Design Tokyo receives the most guests and the most brands.
Tokyo Designer week has been taking place since 1986.

100% Design Tokyo is an interior design exhibition. It takes places at the Jingu Gaien in Tokyo. Over 30,000 different members of the Design Association of Japan are in attendance, and there is television coverage with over one million viewers at every showing.
Though the Tokyo Designer’s Week has been around since 1986, 100% Design was created in London in 1995. The goal was to introduce many international contemporary pieces to the mainstream and influence the direction of regular interior design.
100% Design Tokyo was not established until 2005, when it was introduced to Tokyo Designer’s Week to a great deal of success. In its first year alone, it had over 67,000 visitors. By 2007, that number had increased to just under 90,000.
In addition to 100% Design, there is also an event known as 100% futures. There, the goal is to see the work of students in the design field and how they may contribute as they continue to work on their craft.
There is also what is known as the “Container Museum” where companies and individuals use tiny pods to create their own “rooms” that consist solely of their contemporary creations.
While Tokyo Designer’s Week has celebrated its 23rd anniversary, most of the displays and events at Tokyo Designer’s week have changed, and the current events were almost entirely created within the past decade.
