Blankey Jet City topped the Japanese punk rock scene in the 90's. Since the band's creation in 1990 by vocalist and guitarist Kenichi Asai, they have released dozens of albums and singles even with each band member working on their own side-project bands. After its formation, the band soon earned itself a major record deal with Toshiba EMI thanks to a battle-of-the-bands-meets-American-Idol-style television program.
