Sanrio Puroland (サンリオピューロランド) is a theme park located in Tama New Town, Tokyo, Japan. The theme park, opened on December 7, 1990 is and indoor attraction that draws more than 1.5 million visitors a year. The theme of the park is based around Sanrio’s cast of characters including Hello Kitty, Keroppi, and Pochacco. Included are numerous attractions, rides, restaurants, and musical features based around these characters.

Puroland draws a large number of overseas visitors because of Sanrio’s international popularity. The theme park originally suffered from a potential major setback as it lost significant amounts of money in its first three years due to poor management and a drop off in popularity of the company’s characters. However, since then, it has become a top attraction in Japan.

Layout

Sanrio Puroland is entirely indoors, one of the few such theme parks in the world and takes many cues from major inspirations such as Disney Land, complete with life size characters for children to take pictures with to daily fireworks shows. The park itself is relatively small and packed together with a descending, floor structure.

The main square is known as the Tree of Wisdom and is where visitors can find their way to any of the other attractions. Other attractions such as Hello Kitty’s apartment, stuffed with items bearing her image, and the boat ride taking you through her neighborhood and family.

Each day, a parade occurs where the main characters parade through the center square with professional dancers in tow, with singing and dancing.

Location

Sanrio Puroland can be found in Tama-shi, Tokyo, at the following address:
