In 1999, Johnny’s and Associates, a popular music producer in Japan, announced that they had a new group - a group that would make the entertainment world stand up and pay attention. The groups name was Arashi. Arashi first officially debuted at the World Cup of Volleyball in 1999 in Japan, and soon hundreds of thousands of people came to see them sing.

Arashi is a group that is made up of five young men. Considered to be a Japanese boy band, Arashi began releasing albums in Japan and became a huge hit. In 2006 they started releasing songs outside of Japan, and in Korea, their album was so successful that it sold out the first day it was offered.

About the Members

The leader of the group is also the oldest. Satoshi Ohno, became the lead singer of the group by winning a game of rock-paper-singers. He sings the lead vocals but is not comfortable in being the leader. He is also considered to be the best dancer in the group and choreographs many of the group’s movements.

Sho Sakurai is the rapper of Arashi and also writes a lot of the lyrics. Sho graduated from Keio University, which is considered to be an Ivy League school, yet chose to become an entertainer.

The tallest of the group is Masaki Aiba. He used to play the saxophone but due to the collapse of one of his lungs, also known as pneumothorax, he was unable to play the saxophone anymore. Aiba tends to make a lot of mistakes whenever the group has an interview and is also considered to be the most endearing member of the five.

Kazunari Ninomiya managed to star in the critically acclaimed Letters from Iwo Jima, which was directed by Clint Eastwood.

The last member of the group, Jun Matsumoto, is the youngest. He has been in a number of Japanese shows. He is the comedic member of the group and was also the first male to be on the cover of Marie Claire in Japan.
