Def Tech is a Jawaiian (Japanese + Hawaiian ) reggae vocal unit comprising SHEN, from Hawaii and MICRO, from Japan. Shen (28th August 1980) was born in the People's Republic of China and grew up in Hawaii. Having has visited Japan over many years for his father's job made him bilingual in English and Japanese. Micro, Yuki Nishimiya (9th August 1981), was originally from Ota, Tokyo and graduated from Hosei University. He created a label called [[Primary Color Recordz]] in February 2007. The two met through a mutual friend, Jesse, who is a member of Japanese band Rize.

Def Tech fuses dancehall reggae and hip hop to create infectious party music. Their self-titled debut album was released in January 2005. It went to No. 1 in the charts and has sold over 1.1 million copies. Their second album [[Lokahi Lani]], broke the record for initial indies albums sales.


Trivia

[[Catch The Wave]] includes a title track that was used for the 2006 film Catch a Wave. Micro played the role of a of surfer in the film.

The PlayStation drumming simulation game Taiko no Tatsujin includes the Def Tech track My Way.
