Tokyo Game Show

The Tokyo Game Show (東京ゲームショウ) is the world’s largest video game exhibition event. Often referred to by its initials (TGS), the Tokyo Game Show is held every September (occasionally October) at the Makuhari Messe Hall in Chiba City. It is organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) and co-organized by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.
The Tokyo Game Show is the chance for many gaming companies to promote their newest gaming creations to the public. The first few days are closed door, but it is final two days that are open to the public and have brought in as many as 200,000 different individuals in those two days alone.
History of the Event
The Tokyo Game Show began in 1996. For a over 6 years the event was held twice a year, but in 2002, they decided to hold the event only once a year.
Nintendo does not generally participate in the Tokyo Game Show event. In general, Sony was one of the largest contributors with their Playstation console, though recently Microsoft Xbox has begun to play a role in the demonstrations. Nintendo did use the event to first show the Nintendo Wii to the public, as well as give a keynote address in 2005, but since then they have continued to remain away from the proceedings.
The next event is scheduled for October of 2008. CESA expects almost 200,000 visitors, and more than last year’s totals of 51 companies, 97 exhibitors, 19 different countries and over 1735 booths.
