Nana Kitade was born 2 May 1987 in Sapporo, Hokkaido. She started learning the piano at the age of four and the guitar at fourteen. After junior high, she went to Tokyo to pursue a singing career. In 2002, she passed a demo tape examination at a Sony Music audition, which drew 40,000 applications. She was signed to SME Records and recorded her first single Kesenai Tsumi in 2003, which was used for the ending theme of the anime Fullmetal Alchemist. In 2005, she released her first album and held her first official concert. That same year, she became the first Japanese artist to perform at the Hong Kong Comic Festival. Katade was one of the musical guests at Otakon 2006 in Baltimore, Maryland and her album 18 -eighteen- was released in the US by Tofu Records. From 27, 2006, Nana released thirteen downloadable singles for cell phones in a row. Kitade’s popularity partially stems from her subscription to Gothic Lolita fashion and she has launched her own fashion line called Moon King.
