Moffle

A Moffle is a sweet originating in Japan. Moffles became popular in 2008. The name "moffle" is a blend of mochi - traditional Japanese rice-based sticky sweet - and a waffle. A slab of mochi paste is applied to a heated waffle iron. The result is crispy on the outside like a traditional waffle, but white in color. Inside, it is chewy like mochi, not cake-textured like a traditional waffle.

A Moffle can be made on a regular waffle iron. However, special Moffle irons are available for sale in Japan. For those who don't want to go through the trouble, moffles can be found in cafes and restaurants in Japan. Harajuku's Milk Cafe offers both sweet and savory moffles on their menu.
